  • Overview

    The American Arbitration Association is seeking a Finance Assistant for our South East Case Management Center (CMC) - Commercial Division. Reporting to the Finance Supervisor, you will be primarily responsible for performing accounting functions such as daily processing of checks and data entry, and is responsible for accounting and clerical duties to ensure that all aspects of financial administration for case files are accurate.

    • Processes checks received; prepares and makes bank deposits, and completes check identification searches.
    • Checks figures, postings, and documents for correct entry, mathematical accuracy, and proper codes, and keeps case managers informed of transactions and data.
    • Classifies, records, and summarizes numerical and financial data to compile and keep financial records, using spreadsheets.
    • Monitors accounts and collections activity and coordinates with corporate finance department to ensure payments are up to date and accurate.
    • Reconciles, notes and reports discrepancies found in records.
    • Provides financial expertise and support to case administrators on active cases, and works with case administrators on financial issues that may arise with closed cases.
    • Performs general office duties such as filing, answering telephones, handling routine correspondence; data entry, filing or archiving, maintaining calendars, appointments, and inter-office communications and mail, as required by the team, division or center.
    • Works with various members of the staff to ensure effective case management, excellent client service, good neutrals relations, and effective Divisional/Center operations.
    • Provides customer service support; works with District Vice Presidents and Directors of ADR Services.


    Education & Experience: High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED); and 2 years of relevant experience (bookkeeping, accounting/accounts payable role, etc.); or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
    Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists; Ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions in a manner consistent with the essential job functions.
    Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as legal files, business correspondence and procedure manuals; ability to write routine reports and business correspondence; ability to speak effectively, both in person and by telephone, to customers, arbitrators, mediators or employees of the organization.
    Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals; ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs; ability to understand and interpret statistical reports, data charts and graphs.
    Software Skills: Basic proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Word.
