    As a Staff Accountant, the successful candidate will be an important member of a highly collaborative team in our Corporate Finance Department. Reporting to the AVP & Assistant Controller, the Staff Accountant will use analytical thinking and technological systems to analyze, process, categorize, calculate, audit and verify the accuracy of accounting records and financial data; will analyze financial information and prepares financial reports to determine or maintain record of assets, liabilities, profit and loss, tax liability, or other financial activities within an organization; and will prepare and maintain job cost analysis and billings related to Elections & Education programs.

    Responsibilities

    • General Ledger maintenance - including preparation of journal entries, and review of entries submitted by other departments to ensure accuracy and adequate support.
    • Assists in the completion of monthly and annual financial closes, and the preparation of internal and external reporting.
    • Assists with audits of company information or other projects by retrieving supporting documentation from accounting records.
    • Analyzes operating outcomes on a corporate and unit office level. Prepares monthly, quarterly, annual and ad-hoc business auditing and analyzing relating to business operations, trends, costs, revenues, financial commitments and obligations as directed.
    • Assists Senior Accountants with monthly bank reconciliation and daily cash analysis.
    • Subsidiary ledger reconciliations to the general ledger.
    • Collaborates with Elections and Education departments to ensure appropriate accounting for regional and corporate activity. Interacts with regional, divisional and senior management regarding accounting issues.
    • Provides technical assistance with cost analysis, fiscal allocation, and budget preparation.
    • Creates and modifies documentation of accounting processes utilized, making use of current computer technology.
    • Collaborates with fellow staff members in a continuous effort to promote and provide top quality standards and practices for the Association at all times.

    Qualifications

    Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related discipline; and 3 years of experience in a finance analyst or accounting related role; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.


    Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as legal files, business correspondence and procedure manuals; ability to write routine reports and business correspondence; ability to speak effectively, both in person and by telephone, to customers, arbitrators, mediators or employees of the organization.


    Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals; ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs; ability to understand and interpret statistical reports, data charts and graphs.


    Technical Skills: Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word, intermediate proficiency with web-based case management system preferred.
